Jam Raval, who was migrated from Kutch, founded Jamnagar in 1540. For about 400 years Jamnagar remained as the capital of nawanagar state. He played pivotal role in the foundation of Saurashtra state and in renovation of Somnath temple as he sorted out many issues raised related to it

 Geography Of Jamnagar

It is located on the southern coast of Gulf of Kutch. It has hot dry summer which remains around 40 degrees and moderate winter with average temperature around 30 degree. It experiences rainfall with frequent occurrences of tropical storm. It is rich in variation in topography consisting of hills, landscape beaches with white and golden sands. It is having diverse marine species due to presence of mangroves and coral reef. The only India‘s marine sanctuary is situated Jamnagar.

Economic Aspect

It is endowed with abundance of mineral resources and fossil fuel.ie.crude oil. There are many industries established within the periphery of Jamnagar. Crude oil is extensively mined by reliance industry. It has also established refinery in Jamnagar. Refined crude oil is also exported to many countries. The cement industries at Sikka and Tata chemicals are other two major industries which are established in this area. ZANDU PHARMACY is also in Jamnagar which was established with the effort of Ayurvedacharya Zandu Bhattacharyaji.

Social Aspect

  • The population of Jamnagar is approx. 217000 in which Hindu constitutes 83 % followed by Muslims 14% of total population and others are in minority. It is dominated by Patels, Ahirs and Satvara.
  • Sex ratio is 938 female for every 1000 male which is at par to national ratio.
